Sword Prison

Sword Prison is a long-running otherworld fantasy novel by web author Dugu Xiaodu. First serialized on 17K Novel Network as a VIP title, it spans roughly 1.996 million Chinese characters and is now complete. The story opens in a modern city: Lin Yun, a small-time hoodlum, is snatched into another world during an absurd outdoor date when a mysterious purple sword shoots out of an unnamed black hole, and from then on he embarks on an utterly unfamiliar path of cultivation. Newly arrived in this world, he obtains a fragmentary secret manual of the sword way and uses it as his starting point, growing steadily amid the brutal strife of jianghu and sect conflicts: he unites the five great schools—including the Sword Sect and the Qi Sect—against the forces of the Heavenly Palace and the Demon Gate. Facing enemies closing in on every side, he answers killing with killing and proves the Dao through battle, roaming the nine heavens alone with a single sword. The core conceit of the book is "forging a world with the sword": using essence and qi as the guide and a sea of blood as the medium, sword intent is forged into a purgatory that suppresses one's foes—the so-called Sword Prison. The work's style is blunt and brisk, interweaving urban street swagger with otherworldly fervor; the protagonist has a wildly unconventional personality, and the prose is laced with copious banter and self-deprecating humor. It is a representative long-form work among 17K Novel Network's early otherworld and sword-cultivation novels.
