The Path of the Sword Cultivator

The Path of the Sword Cultivator is an immortal-cultivation novel by the author Duo Duo. It was serialized on Qidian Chinese Network from January 2, 2018, to its completion on April 23, 2020, running to about 4.9387 million characters. It is the first volume of the author's "Sword Cultivation Trilogy" (followed by Sword Soldiers Cross the River and The Sword Was Originally a Demon). The protagonist, Li Ji, was a modern Western fencing coach who died of a heart attack and transmigrated into the body of a patrol officer of the Southern Li Kingdom in an ancient immortal-cultivation world. The original owner of the body had been murdered in a plot, and only then did the protagonist take over the shell. He has no system and no lottery; his only "cheat" is a modern person's rational thinking and scientific knowledge, plus a little internal energy learned in his past life. The opening in the small town of Cixi is plain and slow-burning: he first shows his edge amid everyday town life and demon disasters, then after some scheming joins the Xinyue Sect and formally sets out on the path of cultivation. The novel's core belief is "one sword breaks ten thousand methods": no need to rely on pills for advancement, on artifact refining for divine weapons, or on talismans for prestige; when danger comes, a sword cultivator can rely only on the sword in his hand. The author blends contemporary fencing concepts, mechanics, and logical deduction into the cultivation system, creating original settings such as the "mana barrier" based on the golden ratio; cultivation realms progress through Xuanzhao, Kaiguang, Zhuji, Ronghe, Xindong, Jindan, and Lingji. The protagonist travels through three thousand realms, meets many races, and finally becomes the sect master of the Xuanyuan Sword Sect, overawing the heroes of all heavens and ascending to the immortal world.
