Sword Buddha

Sword Buddha is a long-form Eastern fantasy novel by Qidian writer Zhonggui Huangyan ("Ultimately a Lie"), completed in March 2015 on platforms including Qidian and Hongxiu Tianxiang. It runs 564 chapters in four volumes, roughly 1.53 million characters. The story opens with nine ancient swords ringing in the void; among the nine sword spirits enshrined on a stone platform atop a mountain, the Evil King sword spirit has quietly vanished, planting the seed for the whole book. The protagonist, Bai Shi, is a floor-sweeping boy at Xichen Manor whose talent has been declared worthless, yet he possesses a rare gift for brewing wine. He enters the Dao through wine, catching his first glimpse of spiritual energy through a chance encounter in the wine cellar and a bloodline awakening, and then sets foot on the ruthless path of the sword. The four volumes are "First Steps," "Rising in Chiyan," "Fame Across Two Heavens," and "Tianshan Snow Lotus," tracing his struggle with the Chiyan Peak tribe, his trials as his name spreads across the heavens, and his enlightenment and inner conflict before the Tianshan Snow Lotus—cleansing a bloodstained blade with clear wine, repeatedly questioning his own heart between Buddhist serenity and merciless killing intent. The finale, "Nine Swords as One," culminates in the realization that "the ninth sword is the human body," achieving unity of man and sword, slaying the Blade Emperor, unsealing the divine dragon, and reordering the fortunes of heaven and earth. The work uses "sword" as its instrument and "Buddha" as its realm, grounding its cultivation system in four dimensions—soul, sword, world, and time—to tell a story of cultivation about power, obsession, and compassionate transcendence.
