Editor's review

A Global History: Rebirth from the Ashes is the historian Guo Fang's profound reorganization and reconstruction of the global historical arc. Rather than a conventional chronological listing of general history, it seeks to interpret, from the macro perspective of civilizational evolution, conflict, and fusion, how human society has repeatedly achieved self-renewal and "rebirth" after upheaval and disaster. With solid scholarly grounding, Guo Fang places complex historical events within a framework of global interaction, paying particular attention to the status and role of non-Western civilizations and challenging the long-standing "Eurocentric" view of history. His narrative attends not only to political and military change but also to deeper dynamics such as economic networks, intellectual exchange, and technological diffusion, revealing the multidimensionality and contingency of historical development. For readers, the value of this book lies in providing a more inclusive and dynamic tool for historical understanding, helping us reflect on the deep historical roots of contemporary global challenges while understanding the past. It is more like a key, opening the way to deep reflection on the laws of history and a community with a shared future for mankind, rather than a mere accumulation of facts.

The language is plain, but the concepts and threads involved are fairly macro, requiring readers to have some basic historical knowledge and capacity for logical thinking; it is suitable for careful study.
What does the book say about, or imply for, contemporary China?
The author organically integrates Chinese history into the global process; his analysis of civilizational resilience, transformation, and development provides a far-reaching historical reference for understanding China's place in the world today and its future path.
