Child of Light

Child of Light is Tang Jia San Shao's first full-length web novel and the work that made his name, regarded as the first volume of the Savior trilogy (along with Mad God and The Kind Death God). The story takes place on a magical continent where multiple races coexist: humans, demons, and beast-folk have long been divided between the eastern and western continents and are hostile to one another. The protagonist, Changgong Wei, is a lazy, unmotivated youth who, upon entering the magic academy, chooses the neglected light-element magic, and from there is pushed forward by the gears of fate. At the junior magic academy and the imperial intermediate magic academy, he trains with companions, competes in tournaments, and goes on expeditions, growing step by step from a naive student into a legendary archmage. As demon invasions and beast-folk crises erupt one after another, Changgong Wei is forced into wars and conspiracies that span races, and his choices ultimately reshape the entire continent: the divide between east and west is broken, and the barriers between races dissolve, earning him the title "Child of Light" revered by all races in later generations. The book advances along three interwoven threads—academy growth, continental adventure, and racial war—with a light, humorous style, making it a typical work for understanding early Chinese web fantasy fiction.
