Peerless in the World

Peerless in the World is a long-running Eastern fantasy web novel by the young author Xiao Wo. Serialized since 2015 on platforms such as Chuangshi Chinese Network and Xiaoxiang Academy, it runs to roughly 2.11 million characters in 1,145 chapters and concluded in May 2016. The story opens with a top alchemist of Huaxia accidentally blowing up his furnace while refining a pill; his soul travels through time and possesses Lin Yu, a good-for-nothing youth of the Grand Duke's mansion in Daxia. Though born into a ducal family, the original Lin Yu is dismissed by all as a wastrel. The Lin family appears prosperous but is in fact declining: its elders meet misfortune one after another, and his father has gone missing. Combining his past-life alchemy mastery and memories with the aid of an ancient divine cauldron, Lin Yu begins by clearing his meridians and training his martial skills, while using pills to build connections and a playboy's manner to strike back at his foes. The work unfolds around alchemical inheritance, the family's rise, and the struggle between gods and demons. The protagonist habitually fights with unconventional means such as "shaping yuan force," and his speech is laced with mockery and irony. The book opens with "The Super Lordling" and moves through arcs such as the Benyun Horse Fair, the capital's intrigues, and the Heaven-Banished Mountains, finally closing with "The War of Gods and Demons" and "Epilogue," completing the growth arc from wastrel heir to supreme powerhouse.
