Summary

The Buddhist Doctor's Ancient Tomb is a long-form mystery-adventure novel by author Feitian; the series runs to four volumes, and this is the first. The protagonist, Shen Nan, is the nineteenth-generation heir of the mysterious Shen family. He practices medicine in Hong Kong as a renowned gynecologist, is skilled with throwing knives, and is fluent in six languages. All that remains at home after his parents' disappearance is a single relic: a photograph. On the front is a jade bracelet called the "Bixue Linghuan," with blood-red threads drifting inside it; on the back is a red prose poem about "Judgment Day" in his father's handwriting. The trouble begins when his colleague and friend Liang Ju treats a pregnant woman with "ten pulses." Horrified, Liang Ju tells Shen Nan about it and is then brutally murdered. Shen Nan decides to investigate the truth, and just then he is invited to take the pulse of the Persian concubine of Hong Kong tycoon Old Long, gaining entry to Old Long's underground stone chamber, where he unexpectedly discovers the Bixue Linghuan, a treasure that originally belonged to the Shen family. Meanwhile, Fang Xing, the world's greatest female thief, sneaks into the Shen household for the treasure and becomes Shen Nan's ally rather than his rival. Around the "Dragon Protection Plan," the ten-pulse pregnant woman, the Bixue Linghuan, and the old affairs of the Shen family, the story stretches from the underground stone chamber in Hong Kong to the snow mountains of Tibet, ancient tombs in the Arabian desert, and the legend of the cat spirits beneath the pyramids. This volume collects the three parts "The Dragon Protection Plan," "The Ten-Pulse Sorceress," and "The Bixue Linghuan," about thirty chapters in all, laying out the character relationships and core mysteries for the entire series.

Editor's review

Reading tips
