The first volume of In the Name of the King. The heroine, Li Xin, is her school's famously cold class monitor—efficient and capable at everything, yet friendless because she is too forceful. At a sweltering crossroads, while vowing over an ice pop to become a "delicate woman," she and her classmate Wang Ming tumble into the Continent of the Bright God—a fantasy world ruled by eight factions. When she wakes, she has become the continent's Protector, while Wang Ming—seemingly gentle and harmless, a homebody who dreams of living inside a game—is thrust onto the throne of the Bright King. The Battle God is invincible, the War Ghost indestructible, the Wondrous Artisans forge all things, the Strange Arts command the Nine Pacts, the Law Keepers uphold the Ten Commandments, and the Heavenly Mechanism inherits the sacred edicts; these six factions must submit to the king chosen by the Protector, while the Imperial Attendant is the king's other half, called the Soul Guardian.
