Immortal Register

Immortal Register (Xian Lu) is a long xianxia novel by the web author Buguliao, serialized on Qidian from September 1, 2020, and completed on October 28, 2022, totaling 656 chapters and about 2.24 million characters. The protagonist, Xu Dao, is a young Daoist seeking longevity in a cultivation world where spiritual energy is declining and evil arts run rampant: he comes from a Daoist temple, but the sect treats its disciples as expendable, and its senior figures turn into inhuman monsters after cultivating. He chance-obtains a nameless talisman that lets him rapidly condense talisman seeds, speed up cultivation, and quickly study all manner of techniques and spells; he therefore hides his identity, builds up hidden resources, and bides his time to escape. With the motto "feed the body to demons, plant the demon in the Dao-heart, leave home for half a lifetime, seek only great freedom," the novel builds a cultivation system in which immortal Dao, martial Dao, divine Dao, and external alchemy run in parallel, with elements such as spirits and evil beings, alchemy and talisman drawing, spirit pets and Daoist soldiers, and formation of the golden core through stellar energies. The overall tone is cold and dark, depicting the cruel reality that "the immortal path is inhuman"; the protagonist is decisive in killing yet always keeps a heart turned toward the Dao and a baseline as a human being. The book is divided into an upper part, "Hidden Dragon," and a lower part, "Leaping from the Abyss," and shares a worldview with the author's other work, Immortal Cage.
