Immortal Dynasty is a Honghuang time-travel xianxia novel by web author She Tun Jing, serialized on Chuangshi Chinese Web from September 2013 to its completion in January 2015. Originally titled The Sinful Immortal, it runs about 2.02 million characters across 536 chapters. The story is set "eighteen thousand years after the Investiture of the Gods and eight hundred years after Journey to the West": a world long at peace, where the order of immortals and gods has grown lax—still a golden age on the surface, while beneath it demons, monsters, rogue cultivators, and rival factions run rampant through the mortal realm. The protagonist, Tie Jun, was an engineer from a technological world. After a long dream, he wakes up in the body of a sixteen-year-old constable at the Dongling County yamen, holding the post left by his father, the former head constable, and starting from daily meditation and qi practice in the back hall, barely grasping a "sense of qi." A bloody massacre at the Lu mansion draws him into a bizarre mystery of rogue cultivators cutting open bellies to steal unborn infants, and brings him his first hearing of the word "cultivator"—and from there he sets out on the path of cultivation. He goes on to investigate cases, train in martial arts, and refine qi; obtains treasures such as the Spirit Gourd and the God-Suppressing Crown; masters divine powers like the Tidal Qi Art and Thunder Hand; ventures into secret realms including the King's Tomb, the Shaman Realm, and the Ghost Market; and contends with forces such as the Chaoyin Pavilion, the Six Doors, and the Demon Sect. From the lowest "zi-hua" rank in the yamen, he fights his way up step by step to become a "zi-tou" who can command a region, all pointing toward the grand wish of "ten thousand immortals coming to court." The work weaves the Honghuang worldview of the post-Investiture and post-Journey eras together with county yamen casework, jianghu wanderings, sect rivalries, and the incense offerings of the divine way, and stands as one of She Tun Jing's representative works.
