Immortal Outlaw is a wuxia/xianxia (fantasy cultivation) web novel by the author Roma, serialized and completed on Zongheng Chinese Network. It runs about 805 chapters and more than 2.66 million characters and is one of the long works known in web-novel circles for its "decisive killing" and its reconstruction of mythology. The story opens in the modern era: the protagonist Tu Zhe, once a talented student at Peking University, fails the civil service exam and makes a living as a pig butcher. When his home is forcibly demolished and his mother injured, he drives a car in a rage and kills someone, losing his own life in the process. As his soul wanders the void, he meets a mysterious dog named Yema, becomes sworn siblings with it, is pursued by the remnant soul of the ancestor Chiyou, and by a strange twist "passes on" to Mount Sumeru, becoming the "Reborn Son of Heaven." Thereafter he battles across the myriad worlds: Mount Sumeru, Yama Heaven, the star sea of the demon clans, the fundamental law of time interweaving, with the will of the gods, the Lords of Heaven, witches, and demon princesses appearing in turn. Unwilling to be ruled by the order of gods and Buddhas, and adhering to the creed "if a man wrongs me, I will cut him down," the protagonist openly goes to war with the forces of gods and Buddhas, blending cultivation systems, Eastern mythology, and fantasy world-building as he breaks through realms again and again in life-and-death struggles. The book concludes with the final chapter, "The War of Eternal Life," and sets its tone with the line "The Reborn Son of Heaven battles across the myriad worlds: gods block, he kills gods; Buddhas block, he cuts down Buddhas." The work is distinguished by fast-paced progression and high-density battles, schemes, and calculations, reconstructing the mythological system, and is one of the representative early xianxia works of the "defy heaven and change fate" type.
