The Miraculous Hands of an Immortal Doctor

The Miraculous Hands of an Immortal Doctor is a long novel of the supernatural-powers genre by the web author Zhou Langxian. It was serialized on Qidian from January 2014 to its completion in July 2015 and runs to about 2.41 million characters. The protagonist, Lin Yihang, was a supremely gifted cultivator who accidentally crossed into the modern city and became a high-school student about to sit the college entrance exam. With photographic memory and a full set of immortal arts and powers, he quickly turns his fortunes around on campus and sets off on a path of comeback. Medicine is the most captivating part of the story: he can diagnose and treat stubborn and complicated illnesses in casual conversation, use elixirs to revive the dead and regrow flesh on bone, and make a name for himself in medical circles with his extraordinary skills; he can also read physiognomy and turn stones into gold, and he takes part in jade-gambling and treasure appraisal and in expeditions to hidden realms. The plot extends from campus into medicine and business warfare and beyond: while refining elixirs, he builds his own business group and is drawn into the struggle over the sacred relic of the blood clan and confrontations with ancient martial-arts sects. The book blends cultivation elements with modern urban life, resting on a foundation of modern cultivation plus urban power fantasy, and through the protagonist's near-overwhelming growth in different fields it presents a thoroughly satisfying comeback story.
