Summary

He escapes with his life from the venomous pursuit of the Yinling Sect, only to witness his mother's murder. With the self-sacrificing aid of the Three-Handed Divine Lord, who repays a debt of gratitude at the cost of his own life, Leng Tianxing finds the long-rumored Nine Heavens of the martial world and diligently masters the various supreme arts within the Nine Heavens Palace. He descends the mountain vowing to avenge his grievous blood feud, but the Yinling Sect is shrouded in mystery, making even the Nine Great Sects wary. With the help of a loyal and strange brother and upright masters, his path of vengeance finally reaches fulfillment. Yet entangled in romantic woes, he meets a pair of sisters both righteous and wicked, a noble lady bearing a family feud of her own, and a devoted woman he once saved... In the end, though they live in marital harmony, his heart remains unsettled.

Editor's review

As Mr. Chen Wenqing's new work, the first volume of Nine Heavens, published by Taiwan Wuxia Legend Co., Ltd., quickly drew the attention of traditional wuxia enthusiasts. The book continues the author's consistent style, combining a grand worldview with delicate character portrayal to build a layered "Nine Heavens" system rich in Eastern philosophical meaning. The opening does not cut in with fierce martial combat but rather, through the protagonist's encounters, lays layer upon layer of groundwork, gradually revealing the operating laws and latent conflicts of this world; the narrative pace is well modulated and carries a strong classical flavor. The author's writing is solid: in describing moves and creating atmosphere, it preserves the charm of classical wuxia while accommodating modern reading habits, so it never feels obscure. In terms of depth, it is not merely a story of martial arts and revenge but also touches on fate, choice, and the individual's place within a vast system, planting deep foreshadowing for later plot development. For readers familiar with Chen Wenqing's previous works, this book retains its core features while appearing more ambitious in story structure. Overall, it is a work that requires quiet, attentive reading; its value lies in following the author's brush to immersively experience that rigorously ordered yet undercurrent-riven martial world and to feel the characters' struggles and growth within it.

Who it's for

A good fit for

  • Readers who love traditional wuxia narrative style and worldview building
  • Those interested in wuxia stories containing Eastern philosophical speculation
  • Loyal readers of Mr. Chen Wenqing who wish to follow his latest creative direction
  • Readers who enjoy following a protagonist's step-by-step growth while exploring a vast unknown world

Not a good fit for

  • Readers seeking fast pacing, strong conflict, and dense fight scenes
  • Readers impatient with a more refined narrative style that emphasizes atmosphere and buildup

Reading tips

  1. Read in a relatively quiet environment to better immerse yourself in the atmosphere and mood the work creates.
  2. Pay attention to the various detailed settings of the "Nine Heavens" system; they may be key to understanding later plot developments.
  3. The first half builds slowly; please be patient—character turning points and the full unfolding of the worldview often come after accumulation.
