Sovereign Immortal Emperor of the Nine Heavens

Nine Heavens Immortal Emperor is a xianxia cultivation novel by the web author Eight Liang Seven Qian, serialized on Qidian and completed in January 2015 at approximately 2.13 million Chinese characters. Set in a world of cultivation, the story unfolds between two realms: above the nine heavens, the Immortal Emperor of Eternal Life governs all living beings; below in the nine underworlds, the Dark Lord commands countless ferocious spirits. The protagonist, Zhang Jie, is burdened with a "hopelessly inferior talent" seen once in ten thousand years, cultivating under conditions far worse than his peers. Yet through a series of fortuitous encounters and sheer perseverance, he rises from the lowest depths, step by step entering sect training, contending for spirit beasts and magical treasures, enduring trials and tournaments, until he finally ascends to the pinnacle of the immortal realm and takes the throne of the Supreme Immortal Emperor above the nine heavens. At its core, the novel poses the question: "Seek, and you become immortal; do not seek, and you remain mortal." Talent is not the sole determinant—the choice to seek one's path or not is what separates mortals from immortal emperors. The work follows the traditional xianxia "underdog rise" formula, paced as a leveling-up narrative, complete with sects, secret realms, magical treasures, and sword arts—well suited to readers who enjoy long-form grinding and watching the protagonist climb from the bottom to the top. This entry is compiled from the web serialization and the complete digital edition; it is not an official print publication.
