Deathstroke #14

Deathstroke #14 was published on March 8, 2017. It is the fourteenth issue of the Deathstroke series launched in 2016 and the third of seven parts of the "Twilight" storyline. The issue was written by Christopher Priest, with pencils by Joe Bennett and inks by Norm Rapmund. The plot follows from what came before: Slade Wilson accepts a seemingly ordinary military contract that proves far more dangerous than expected, in exchange for U.S. Naval Intelligence dropping all charges against him. During the operation he encounters an unexpected new companion—the teenage Tanya Spears, the new-generation Supergirl known as Power Girl. According to the plot summary for this issue on the Grand Comics Database, Deathstroke agrees to carry out an assassination in the Bronx in order to retrieve his sword from Dex, and during the operation encounters Power Girl; meanwhile, Hosun and Rose Wilson (Ravager) search everywhere for the sword. While fighting the assassination target, Slade is injected with a dose of a drug and later discovers he has gone blind. The issue also involves Jericho (Joseph Wilson) and series elements such as the Ikon suit. This issue is an important turning point in Priest's reinvention of the Deathstroke series. Priest sought to establish Deathstroke as a terse, cold, utterly humorless professional killer, freeing the character from others' misreadings of him. The issue's focus therefore lies not in fight scenes but in the sharp deterioration of Slade's situation and the undercurrents in his family relationships.
