Amateur Cultivation is an urban cultivation web novel by Yishuihanjiang, belonging to the "modern cultivation" genre. The protagonist, Ye Yu, is a cultivator from another world whose soul transmigrates into the body of an Earth high school student also named Ye Yu. He originally intended to recover his cultivation as quickly as possible and return to the continent where he once lived, but he finds that Earth's spiritual qi is extremely scarce and the path of re-cultivation nearly hopeless, so he simply styles himself an "amateur cultivator" and lives a quiet, stable life in low profile. Yet Earth, peaceful on the surface, follows the same law of the jungle within. When Ye Yu tries to change these rules, various mysterious forces gradually surface: mysterious ancient martial artists, elegant yet cruel blood knights, ninjas skilled in assassination, special Western espers, hidden Eastern cultivators, along with desolate ancient ruins, eerie altars, mysterious spaces within pyramids, and unknown mysterious creatures. His comfortable life is disrupted, and Ye Yu is drawn into a series of events, moving as an "amateur" between campus, city, and the hidden world of cultivation. The work presents light urban campus daily life on the surface and, beneath it, a cultivator's low-profile conduct and overwhelming strength, combining urban supernatural powers, campus life, and Eastern cultivation elements.
