Editor's review

This book is a systematic collection of essays from two Peking University Youth League Committee columns on youth commentary and exploration since 2018, along with special features on the 100th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement, the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China, the fight against the epidemic, and reforms of student union organizations. Its value lies not in offering ready-made conclusions but in showing how a generation of young people intervenes in public issues through writing: it contains both reflections on Youth League work and the mission of youth and keen observations of changing times. The essays are moderate in length and solemn yet sharp in tone, suitable as a sample for understanding the intellectual currents of university youth and the style of commentary writing. Readers may treat it as a "youth observation archive," tracing the continuity and changes of views across special topics, or select chapters close to their own circumstances for comparison, experiencing how personal experience can be turned into publicly meaningful expression.

Who it's for

  • University Youth League and student affairs staff and counselors, for understanding youth intellectual currents

Not a good fit for

  • Researchers hoping for a systematic academic theoretical framework

  • Readers seeking immediate operational guides or tool-based methods

Reading tips

  1. Read the special features first, then read in column order to grasp the thread of issues.
  2. After each essay, write down your own rebuttal or supplement to train commentary thinking.
  3. Drawing on your own campus or professional experience, select similar themes and make comparisons.

Will readers without a Peking University background feel alienated?
Only limitedly. The topics involve public issues such as the mission of youth, Youth League work, and the development of the times, and are not aimed only at campus readers; some campus context requires a little familiarity, but this does not hinder understanding of the main points.
