The Unrestrained Heavenly Master

Unbound Heavenly Master is an urban fantasy novel by the web author Western Hemisphere, totaling around 1.05 million Chinese characters. The story unfolds in a modern city where monsters and humans coexist unknown to the public: as cities replace mountains and forests and interpersonal relationships grow increasingly cold, monsters in human form quietly integrate into human society, while a small number of humans possess special abilities that allow them to intervene when monsters cause trouble. The novel begins with the dimming light of the seventh star of the Big Dipper (Po Jun), setting the causal chain of the entire story in motion. The protagonist is born under the auspices of the inauspicious star Po Jun and is also burdened with the fate of a direct confrontation with his father, who corresponds to the star Tan Lang. An "artificial demon" scheme pushes the chain of cause and effect across the Three Realms to the brink of collapse, cracks appear in the barriers between the realms of gods, humans, and demons, and Mount Buzhou, the center of the world, emerges into the world; should Mount Buzhou collapse, the world will meet its end. The ruler of the underworld, King Yama of the Forest of Death, sends word, and the protagonist is forced to choose between "killing his father" and "saving the Three Realms." When everything is settled, he discovers that the father he was called to oppose is the true hero. The book opens with episodic urban monster-hunting cases, gradually escalates to the grand scale of a collapsing order across the Three Realms, and concludes with an elegy for a hero.
