Summary

Immortal Celestial of Ten Thousand Realms is a long xianxia web novel by Shi San, a platinum author of China Literature Limited. It was serialized on Qidian from September 2012 and completed on August 9, 2013, running to about 2.57 million Chinese characters. The story is set against the backdrop of the Sui Dynasty: in the third year of the Kaiyuan era, a cataclysm struck heaven and earth, and countless meteors fell to the world. Three enormous, hideous stone figures descended quietly on the mountain behind Lotus Terrace Village, yet caused no earthquake. From then on, the village boy Sun Li could always hear a distant summoning voice in his mind. Later he went up the mountain alone; in a stupor he saw visions of a hundred-eyed figure, a hundred-armed figure, and the mysterious stone figure at their center. When he awoke the three colossi had vanished, leaving only three fist-sized stone figures hidden on his person. With these stone figures and the voice in his head, he entered Subaoshan, one of the seven great sects of the Sui. Among a sect brimming with prodigies, the mediocre Sun Li is utterly unremarkable and coldly neglected; but what the stone figures teach him gradually becomes clear—profound cultivation methods, exquisite alchemy, supreme artifact crafting, unmatched talisman techniques, and even the hidden art of the cultivation world, spirit-pattern array armor. The three stone figures excel in all of these, and their origin runs through the entire story. The novel constructs a layered cultivation system—Mortal Realm, Daoist Realm, Sage Realm, and beyond—and follows the protagonist from the bottom of the cultivation ladder as he breaks through bottleneck after bottleneck across sect examinations, the Fire Valley trial, and other events. Combining artifact crafting, alchemy, sect intrigue, and the passionate pursuit of the Dao against heaven's will, it is one of Shi San's more representative long cultivation novels.

Editor's review

Who it's for

A good fit for

Not a good fit for

Reading tips
