Summary

The Heavenly King of Ten Thousand Realms is an otherworld-continent web novel by Luo Sen, serialized on Qidian Chinese Network from 2014; the first part was completed in 2015, and the whole book is about 1.64 million characters. The story begins with a cross-dimensional "ascension accident": during the calamity of three moons in the same sky, the Heavenly Worthy Peng Wanli forces his way through the heavenly tribulation and shatters the void, yet instead of entering the immortal realm he falls into a world with thin spiritual energy and completely unfamiliar rules—Three Moon Mountain. With his mana fallen back to the True Lord level, he is gravely wounded by the villagers of a small corner village using bone clubs, and finally, from the hands of the corpse-collecting youth Meng Yan, he takes a bowl of water, leaves the youth his lifetime of insights and a cultivation method, and passes away. It turns out that Three Moon Mountain is a strange "landing point": masters from the various realms and true immortals who have cultivated for ten thousand years appear here one after another and end their lives in resentment one after another, their immortal artifacts and treasures scattered all over the ground—the Sea-Calming Crimson Immortal Banner, the Nine-Heaven Lotus Lamp, the Two-Modes Immortal-Binding Rope, the Four-Symbols Tribulation-Transcending Pagoda... all reduced to junk in the wild. Meng Yan, who originally only collected corpses for these outsiders on the mountain and farmed to get by, by chance obtains the bone club and the mysterious system within it, inherits the legacies and transmissions left by the fallen masters of past generations, and from then on leaves the poor mountain valley and is drawn into the conflicts among the various forces of the southern border, growing continuously through events such as the snow-domain seal, the Nirvana Pure Land, and the ascension of battle weapons. The novel takes "battle weapons" as its core setting, fusing Buddhist meditation arts, heretical secret arts, and ancient martial arts into one furnace, and builds a multi-tiered power system and sect structure. In narrative it deliberately deconstructs traditional cultivation tropes with banter and snark—killing for treasure, slaying a sister to prove the way, and slapping faces in the street are repeatedly mocked—and the "aloof majesty" of the true immortals forms a strong contrast with Meng Yan's streetwise wit, making it a brisk, refreshing read. The protagonist ultimately wields the power of the Supreme Ring Seal to explore the ancestral legacy, takes over as sect master of Thousand Snow Peak, and becomes the ruler of this world of over-spec battle weapons.

Editor's review
