Throne of Ten Thousand Beasts

Beast King's Throne is a xianxia fantasy cultivation web novel by Jian Xilai, serialized and completed on Qidian in 2015. It comprises 363 chapters in four volumes, totaling approximately 1.0792 million Chinese characters. The protagonist, Yu Sheng, is originally the son of the martial arts alliance leader in the mortal realm's Chang'an City. When Mu Chuanren, the Wood Spirit Sword Master of the Five Elements Sword Sect, descends to the mortal realm in search of a disciple, Yu Sheng is brought into the Spirit Realm. In the Five Elements Sword Sect's recruitment test, his swordsmanship talent is rated Heaven-tier, yet his spiritual root is judged to be the lowest, Desolate-tier. He becomes a laughingstock among his fellow disciples and suffers suppression from Elder Yang Yan and others. By chance, he unseals the God King Wu Tiancang from his consciousness sea and obtains the Beast Friend Art and the method for contracting a lifebound spirit beast. This sets him on an alternative path that does not rely on his own spiritual root but instead uses spirit beasts to feed back into his cultivation. Volume One depicts his cultivation of techniques in the Five Elements Mountains, alchemy, the taming of the spirit beast Old White, and his involvement in sect affairs and secret realm conflicts. Volume Two follows his takeover of the declining Beast Taming Sect, its reconstruction, his rise to fame at the Central Continent Sect Tournament, and his emergence as the "Grand Sect Master." Volume Three recounts his return to Chang'an to settle mortal ties and his exploration of the Wasteland Underground Palace. Volume Four concludes with a realm war triggered by an ice demon invasion. The novel builds a spirit beast contract system around settings such as the Beast Friend Art and the Myriad Beast Bulwark. The final chapter, "An Apology from the West," closes the story with an anti-climactic touch, settling on recollections of mortal emotions after ascension to godhood.
