The Power of One

The Power of One is a long fantasy web novel by Feng Xiaoshi, serialized on Qidian Chinese Network. It runs about 1.4854 million Chinese characters and is complete. In the story, otherdimensional spaces descend, beings called "deities" manifest before humanity, ancient roars echo without end, and old weapons and orders are helpless before divine might; humanity can only rely on supernaturally evolved individuals to step onto the front lines. The protagonist, Tang Hong, is a third-year student at Yunhai University of Finance and Economics. On a train back to school, he accidentally activates a support system of the same name, "The Power of One." The system's rules are rather odd: eating hotpot, watching a movie, or riding a train alone earns one point of solo value; practicing boxing or meditating alone, or gazing at scenery from a high building, earns two; being hunted by a wolf pack, a male lion, or even a deity and then turning to fight back earns five. In other words, the lonelier he is and the more he faces the world alone, the stronger the power and will he can exchange for. By allocating his solo value, Tang Hong steadily advances along the two lines of power and will; discovered by the organization "Yellow River," he enters the imperial capital's special training camp for superhuman training, rises from a green student to a registered superhuman, receives the code name "Godslayer," and faces enemies alone in battles such as the descent of the Disaster God and the shattering of the Altar of the Gods. Set against a modern city, the work blends superhuman evolution, cultivation of will, and multiple space-times, telling how an ordinary person, surrounded by gods, stands before humanity with the power of one.
