THE END Volume 5

This is Volume 5 of the Chinese edition of Marvel's THE END collection. THE END is a special Marvel project launched in 2003: premised on "suppose this is the last story of a certain hero or universe," it invites different creative teams to write a one-off "final chapter" for their respective characters, each independent and outside Marvel's main continuity. The series opener is the six-issue limited series Marvel Universe: The End, written and drawn by Jim Starlin—the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten is chosen by the power of the Heart of the Universe and becomes a world-conquering "god"; Thanos notices this power through Doctor Doom's actions, gathers the surviving heroes, including the Defenders, to counterattack and seizes the Heart of the Universe. Yet touching this ultimate power, Thanos discovers that the universe itself has a fundamental flaw, doomed to end in the near future, and that even the Heart of the Universe cannot correct it. The Living Tribunal summons Eternity, Death, Galactus, and the Celestials to stop him, but they fall one by one in the unequal confrontation, and the universe is finally swallowed entirely by Thanos. Afterwards, Adam Warlock, who survives because he is outside the space-time continuum, finds Thanos and persuades him to make the only true sacrifice of his life.
