Bat-Mite Vol. 1

Summary
Bat-Mite is a six-issue limited series published by DC Comics from June to November 2015, written by veteran scribe Dan Jurgens and drawn by rising artist Corin Howell. The story centers on Batman's "ultimate fan"—a mischievous imp from the Fifth Dimension known as Bat-Mite. This pint-sized Fifth-Dimensional being, dressed in an ill-fitting Batman costume, believes he is the one who elevated Batman to superhero stardom, and therefore sets out across the DC Universe as a "image consultant" to "fix" those peers he deems a stain on Batman's glory: heroes such as Hawkman, Booster Gold, and Robin are all sought out and forced to accept his self-important "help," setting off a string of absurd and raucous mishaps. This volume is the first of the series, collecting Bat-Mite #1, "Transplant," along with the prelude story "Divergence: Bat-Mite" from Convergence: Supergirl: Matrix #2. The tone is light and comedic, the art exaggerated and cartoonish, while retaining the serious undercurrent of Batman stories to create a comedic contrast. For readers familiar with the DC Universe and the Bat-family, this is a rare and enjoyable attempt to look back on Batman's image through comic-book meta-humor.
Editor's review
