This volume is the third installment in the nine-book Superman collection, comprising Part 3 of the main story arc in the Superman Unchained series. The story's backdrop: decades before the orphan of Krypton became Earth's guardian, another being of immense power fell from the sky; this being was once treated by the U.S. military as a secret weapon, and his role later became a dark secret deliberately buried in American history. As the secret gradually surfaces, this super-soldier reappears before the world. Superman, his archenemy Lex Luthor, reporter Lois Lane, and Lois's cold, hard-nosed father General Sam Lane are all drawn into a layered mystery involving the high-tech terrorist organization Ascension, an alien entity known as the Ghost who surpasses Superman in power, and the mysterious Earthstone. In this advancing volume, readers see how Superman grapples with the question of how power should be used when facing an opponent equal to or even stronger than himself, as well as his partnership with Batman and Clark's everyday life with Lois. The entire work is written by Scott Snyder and drawn by Jim Lee, released during the New 52 era to commemorate Superman's 75th anniversary. This is Volume 3 of the series.
