About the author

Huang Fan is a Chinese writer about whom little public information is available. Judging from the three works held in the collection, his writing and teaching center on the craft of poetry and fiction. The Empire of Imagery: A Course in Writing Poetry and The Pyramid of the Everyday: Eleven Steps to Writing Poetry are aimed at beginners, discussing how images are built and how to approach writing a poem, while The Museum of Human Nature: Seven Lessons in Writing Fiction turns to fiction and, in the form of seven lessons, examines how character and human nature are presented. All three are guides to writing and literary appreciation, written in plain language and concerned with turning abstract ideas about creation into practical steps that beginners can follow. In library classifications they are often placed under literary appreciation and examination books, suggesting a practical orientation toward both teaching and exam preparation. Beyond these works, details of the author's life cannot be verified.
