About the author

Lü Jing is an author about whom little public information is available, whose name appears on annotated and translated editions of Chinese classics. Three of this author's works are held in the collection: Annotated Selections from the Classic of Poetry, a translation and annotation of Yuewei Caotang Biji (Random Jottings from the Cottage of Close Scrutiny), and a translation and annotation of the Gu Lienü Zhuan (Biographies of Exemplary Women). All belong to the collation and annotation of classical Chinese texts and are commonly classified under Eastern philosophy. The subjects reflect an emphasis on annotation, translation and commentary: a pre-Qin poetry anthology, a Qing dynasty notebook of strange tales, and a collection of ancient women's biographies, spanning classical scholarship, supernatural anecdote and ethical narrative. Such work demands careful attention to textual versions, word meaning and allusion, presented in a form accessible to modern readers, and thus serves the reading and popularization of ancient books. No biographical, national or educational details are available and none are supplied here.
