Kahlil Gibran

Kahlil Gibran (1883–1931) was a Lebanese-American philosophical essayist, novelist, poet, and painter. Born in Bsharri, northern Lebanon, he moved with his mother to Boston in 1895, later studied art in Paris, settled in New York in 1912, and in 1920 helped found the Arab émigré writers' group al-Mahjar, commonly known as the Pen League. His representative works include The Prophet, A Tear and a Smile, Sand and Foam, and The Broken Wings. Blending Eastern and Western cultures, his writings explore love and beauty with both lyrical and philosophical qualities. Eleven of his works are held in this collection, including prose-poetry selections, English-Chinese bilingual editions, and readers for primary and secondary students; common categories cover literature, foreign literature, philosophy, and inspirational growth, showing his enduring influence in literary reading and reflections on life.
