About the author

Tong Ming is an author name in contemporary Chinese academia that is easily confused, as it actually corresponds to two scholars with very different identities. Public information is limited. According to existing introductions, one is Tong Ming, a professor at Tongji University born in 1968 and a grandson of the architect Tong Jun; his work Southeast Garden Villas is a design-related book dealing with garden architecture. The other, originally named Liu Jun and born in Xi'an, is a tenured professor in the English Department at California State University, Los Angeles, and the first English translator of Mu Xin's works. He is the author of The Fugue of Modernity: Revelations from Nineteenth-Century European Literary Classics and the editor of Leopard Change: Mu Xin's Short Story Cycle and Selected Poems of Mu Xin, with writings mostly focused on foreign literature and literary appreciation. The three works under the name Tong Ming span design, foreign literature, and literary appreciation, and readers should distinguish the author behind each title according to the specific book.
