Zhang Tianyi (1906–1985) was a renowned modern Chinese writer and children's author. Born in Nanjing to a family with roots in Xiangxiang, Hunan, and originally named Zhang Yuanding, he entered the literary scene in 1929 with "A Three-and-a-Half-Day Dream," joined the League of Left-Wing Writers in 1931, and later served as editor-in-chief of People's Literature. His works span social fiction and fairy tales, including the novels Mr. Hua Wei and The Bao Father and Son and the tales Big Lin and Little Lin and The Secret of the Magic Gourd.
