About the author

Tu Zhen (1934–2022) was a Chinese translator born in Beijing, with ancestral roots in Changzhou, Jiangsu. She graduated from the Department of French at Peking University in 1955 and later served as a professor at the University of International Business and Economics and as honorary director of the Mei Lanfang Memorial Museum. Her translation work spanned foreign literature and drama: she translated Return to Wuthering Heights and plays by Arthur Miller, and co-translated Selections from Sherlock Holmes with Mei Shaowu. The three works by her in this database fall into mystery and foreign literature. The former presents Conan Doyle's classic detective stories in English-Chinese bilingual form, while the latter centers on Arthur Miller's plays, including A View from the Bridge. Public information about her life is limited, but her choice of texts shows a balance between popular classics and serious drama, with translations that value readability and fidelity to the original, acting as a bridge between Chinese and foreign literature.
