About the author

Gu Duxiang was a wuxia novelist from Taiwan, China. Public information about him is limited, and little is known of his life. He was active in the 1960s and 1970s, following in the tradition of Chen Qingyun and Tian Ge and continuing and developing the style of the "ghost school" (guipai) of wuxia fiction. Four of his works are currently included in the database: Blood God, The Thousand-Faced Yama, Remnant Soul of the Blood Sea, and Shadow of the Blood Light. Most were published by houses such as Tsinghua Publishing. These novels often blend wuxia with elements of otherworldly continents; their plots are eerie and unpredictable, their atmosphere gloomy and oppressive, and they are notable for gruesome, bloody scenes and suspense that builds layer by layer. He occupies a place in the genealogy of Taiwan's "ghost school" wuxia. Although his output and reach were smaller than those of better-known writers of the same school, his work remains of value for understanding the themes and aesthetic tastes of this type of wuxia.
