About the author

Kong Qiu is Confucius, whose given name was Qiu and whose courtesy name was Zhongni. He was a native of Zou in the state of Lu (present-day Qufu, Shandong) during the Spring and Autumn period. A thinker, statesman, and educator, he founded the Confucian school and was later honored as the Supreme Sage and Teacher. His sayings and deeds were chiefly compiled by his disciples and their followers in the Analects, which became a core text of Confucian classics. This site holds five related works, including an edition of the Classic of Poetry in a traditional-classics series, modern Chinese translations of the Analects and the Classic of Filial Piety, and a multi-volume collection of Chinese classics. These works span ancient poetry, Eastern philosophy, and literary appreciation, showing both Confucius's role in transmitting classics and the lasting influence of his thought. Because public sources on his birth and death years are limited, no inferences are made here; readers may consult his works and commentaries to understand his profound influence on Chinese and East Asian cultural traditions.
