Summary

Huang Weilin's Medical Cases is a case-based work documenting the clinical diagnostic and treatment experience of the modern-era Chinese medicine practitioner Huang Weilin, compiled into book form by Qiu Sheze. The book preserves, in the form of individual case records, Huang's clinical reasoning in pattern differentiation, his prescriptions and medicinals, and follow-up notes, making it a typical Chinese medical text that "carries method within cases": it neither lays out systematic theory nor offers textbook-style generalizations, but instead presents real clinical conditions, pulse and pattern presentations, treatment methods, formulas and medicinals, and outcomes side by side, allowing readers to grasp the logic of pattern differentiation and the calibrated modification of formulas and medicinals through concrete cases.

From the available evidence, Huang Weilin's cases were once included in a contemporary compilation of proven cases in hepatobiliary disease by distinguished senior Chinese medicine practitioners, where a dedicated case of his appears under the category of "acute icteric hepatitis." This indicates that his clinical strengths lay chiefly in hepatobiliary disease and miscellaneous internal medicine conditions, with treatment methods established according to the pattern and modified as the pattern evolved, and with attention to the relationships among damp-heat, qi movement, and the transport and transformation functions of the spleen and stomach.

The value of such case collections lies in their authentic clinical record: the descriptions of conditions derive largely from outpatient records, and the dosages, administration methods, and treatment courses are relatively complete, making the book useful both as a reference for pattern differentiation among clinical Chinese medicine practitioners and as material for Chinese medicine learners to compare against formula texts and verify theory and method. It should be noted that this book has circulated among the public mainly in the form of digital compilations and scanned copies, and its formal publication details and original editorial history remain to be verified; readers should understand it in light of modern diagnostic and treatment standards and must not substitute the individual cases in the book for proper medical diagnosis and treatment. The content described in this entry is limited to what the title and transmission clues can support and does not involve unverified details of specific cases.

Editor's review

Who it's for

A good fit for

Not a good fit for

Reading tips

FAQ
