Hawkman Vol. 4 Book 2

This volume is the second book of the Hawkman Vol. 4 series, collecting issues #7–12 of Hawkman (2018) and continuing from Book 1, in which Carter Hall questions his endless reincarnations. To understand why he can be reborn again and again, Carter pilots a repaired Thanagarian ship across time and space, seeking fragments left by his past lives: he returns to ancient Egypt and reunites with the prince he once was, Khufu; beneath the stars of Thanagar he meets the Thanagarian police officer Katar Hol; and on a doomed Krypton he has a long conversation with the scholar Katar-Ol. These encounters ultimately reveal the origins he least wants to face—in his first life he was Katar, leader of the Deathbringers, an army that devoured worlds and slaughtered all living things, before he betrayed and sealed them away, atoning through countless reincarnations. Meanwhile, his old comrade Idamm breaks free of imprisonment, takes command of the Deathbringers, and leads their army to Earth, intent on making London—and then the world—the next hunting ground. With warnings and aid from Madame Xanadu, the isolated Carter finally understands: he was always the general of that army. As the army closes in, he summons the Hawkmen of all eras at once, forming an army of countless versions of himself, and makes his stand for Earth against Idamm.
