Summary

The Book of Predictions is a collection of trend observations compiled by Luo Zhenyu, founder of the Dedao app, and produced by Dedao Books; it is also regarded as a companion volume to his New Year's Eve lecture series "Friend of Time" (themed "Good News from the Future"). The book poses the same question to 49 forecasters from different fields: in the area you care about, what looks small and unremarkable now but will keep growing in influence? The contributors include Liu Qing, Wan Weigang, Wu Xiaobo, Li Songwei, Xue Zhaofeng, Xiang Shuai, Bo Shining, Tang Keyang, Liu Run, Liang Ning, Sun Liping, and Nick Bostrom, covering more than thirty fields including AI, hard tech, economics, education, urban studies, medicine, architecture, media, and psychology. The book places these judgments in a four-quadrant framework formed by "time" and "observer": the horizontal axis runs from emerging new trends to the distant horizon that will eventually arrive, and the vertical axis runs from "relevant to me" to "relevant to the world." The main text is divided into four parts: "Will My Future Self Be Better?", "Will the Future World Get Worse?", "Which Opportunities Are Emerging?", and "What Should I Focus On Now?", discussing in turn the relationship between AI and people, abundance and cycles, opportunities in industry and cities, and individual choices in education, career, health, eldercare, and lifestyle. The author stresses that prediction means identifying long-term variables in small signals of the present; readers must locate themselves in the picture of the future and act accordingly. The book promises no certain answers and is more a multi-perspective checklist for observing the future.

Editor's review

Who it's for

A good fit for

Not a good fit for

Reading tips
