Uncanny Avengers Vol. 29

This volume is issue #29 of Marvel's Uncanny Avengers (2015 Volume 3), originally titled "Stars & Garters, Part Two: Broken Bones," the second installment of the "Stars & Garters" arc. At this stage Jim Zub has taken over as writer with Sean Izaakse on pencils, and the team remains the Unity Squad led by Rogue: Rogue, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Wasp, Doctor Voodoo, and the Inhuman Synapse. The central conflict of this issue revolves around Cain Marko, the Juggernaut. While Doctor Voodoo summons a servant of Cyttorak to rebuild Avengers Mansion, the spell accidentally drags in the Juggernaut, who was being transported nearby, right to the mansion's front door. The Juggernaut rampages; Quicksilver ignores orders and charges ahead with Synapse, who pulls off the Juggernaut's helmet only to find another layer beneath, leaving Synapse gravely injured. After the battle the team keeps vigil at the hospital, where Quicksilver turns on his teammates; after Scarlet Witch berates him to his face, he storms off, while she formally stays with the team. The issue closes with Synapse hospitalized in critical condition and a mysterious note left in her hand, setting up the next issue's "search for the future." As a later issue in the series, it carries on the theme that "people are harder to organize than powers": just as the team welcomes back an old member, it immediately faces a breakdown in command and internal fractures. Recommended for readers following the Rogue-led Unity Squad storyline and the sibling relationship between Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.
