Summary

This book tells the story of three young men—Ru Sheng, Li Yi, and Wu Huan—who, after being evicted by their landlord, inadvertently join a tour group to Guangxi. On the journey they meet three elderly people including Uncle Rong, Ge Xin and her daughter, and two young women, Xue Yan and Yin Yue. Along the way they "rescue one another" and forge friendships at a bonfire party.

This group of elderly people has created its own model of group elderly care, and after the trip ends they decide to take in these homeless young men. In the days that follow, the young people learn to get along with different elders, carefully look after their daily lives, teach them new ways of living, and help them solve the difficulties they encounter in life, clarify their inner feelings, fill their emotional needs, and achieve self-liberation. Besides giving the young people a place to live, the elderly do all they can to help them through a debt crisis, raise funds to start a business, and escape their predicaments.

The publication of this book lets readers feel the warmth and kindness between people, and instills the conviction that young and old can cast off prejudice, drop their disguises, tear down walls, and move forward hand in hand. It helps draw attention to the mental state and living circumstances of both young people and the elderly in the context of the new era.

Editor's review

A Journey Through Green and Yellow is a work that asks readers to settle into it quietly. Meng Chige's narration carries a distinctive restraint and tension: the surface of the prose is calm, yet undercurrents run deep, exploring the eternal themes of time, memory, and existence. This novel is not a linear narrative in the traditional sense; it is more like a stream-of-consciousness canvas collaged from fragments of time, carrying readers back and forth between the protagonist's memories and reality. In the editor's view, the book's greatest value lies in the immersive reading experience it creates and the deep reflection it provokes. It is in no hurry to tell a complete story; instead it carefully builds an atmosphere, a mood, letting readers catch the glimmers of meaning between the lines for themselves. The imagery of "green" and "yellow" is both a depiction of natural colors and a poetic metaphor for states of life, layers of emotion, and the passage of time, demonstrating the author's deep command of language and philosophical reflection. For readers seeking literary beauty and intellectual challenge, this journey is worth taking.

About the author

孟赤歌 Author

Meng Chige is an author about whom little public information is available; the only work currently traceable is a social novel titled The Green-to-Yellow Journey. Judging from the title and its classification, the book points toward social realism, with the phrase “green to yellow” suggesting transition, continuity, and the conditions of survival, hinting that the novel may focus on how ordinary people navigate circumstance and choice amid social change. Because details of the author’s life, nationality, and dates of birth and death cannot be confirmed, the background and course of this writing remain difficult to outline, and readers can enter the author’s textual world only through this single work. On the available evidence, Meng Chige’s writing tends to present social experience in novel form, while the style and influence of the work still await further material and titles for verification.
