The Rage of Thor is a Thor one-shot special from Marvel released in August 2010, written by Peter Milligan with art by Mico Suayan, and it follows on directly from The Trial of Thor, published the previous year. The story takes place after The Trial of Thor: Thor is accused of indiscriminate killing and put on trial by his father Odin and the gods of Asgard. Although he is ultimately cleared, this "unjust trial" leaves him with anger and disappointment he cannot dispel. In his rage he leaves Asgard, renounces his godhood, takes up residence among mortals, joins an ordinary human village, and lives the plain life of a farmer, even taking a wife and starting a family, trying to make himself entirely human. But the war and bloodshed of Asgard eventually spread to the human world, and everything he has newly gained and cherished is in danger of being swallowed by the flames of war. Thor must once again raise Mjolnir and return to the battlefield. This is a self-contained one-shot story, focusing on his emotional choices as a son and a husband and on the rift between father and son rather than on grand cosmic battles.
