About the author
Feng Erkang was born in Yizheng, Jiangsu, in 1934. He is an honorary professor at the School of History, Nankai University, and the founding president of the Chinese Social History Association. He has long specialized in Qing history, social history, clan history, and historical source studies, and is regarded as one of the pioneers of social history research in New China. His works combine a firm grounding in historical sources with readable narration, serving both professional researchers and general readers interested in history. Three of his works are included here: Qing History Source Studies, Vol. 1 (2 volumes), The Biography of Yongzheng (2 volumes), and Biographies of Qing Emperors (6 volumes). The first systematically maps the documentary sources needed for Qing historical research, while the latter two use biography to connect Qing politics with portraits of its emperors, showing his ability to turn solid textual scholarship into clear narrative. His work is representative of history reading and general biography.
