Summary
Collected Medical Writings of One Who Welcomes Correction is a collection of medical discourses and case records co-authored by Ma Jisong and others. Ma graduated from Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (now Anhui University of Chinese Medicine), practiced for years at the grassroots level, and taught at Wuhu School of Traditional Chinese Medicine; the book was published in September 2000 by Hong Kong Tianma Books Co., Ltd. The title derives from the saying "delight in hearing one's faults," expressing the authors' scholarly attitude of welcoming criticism and seeking instruction humbly. The book is divided into six volumes. Volume One, "Studies of the Classics," examines passages and drug use in the Treatise on Cold Damage and the Essentials of the Golden Cabinet, including a disquisition on the alleged incompatibility of aconite (or prepared aconite) with pinellia, a discussion of liver cough, an inquiry into the location of lesser yang disease, and surveys of Zhang Zhongjing's method of invigorating blood and dispelling stasis and his use of asarum, magnolia bark, oyster shell, and astragalus. Volume Two, "Critiques of Earlier Scholars," discusses Cheng Zhongling's treatment of phlegm, Wu Jutong's and Jin Zijiu's approaches to phlegm-fluid retention, Lei Shaoyi's treatment of dysentery and diarrhea, Chen Su'an's regulation of menstruation, and Zhang Cigong's treatment of stomach disorders. Volume Three, "Essentials of Famous Physicians' Experience," compiles the clinical experience of contemporary masters: Zhu Liangchun on bi syndrome and on buffalo-horn marrow, Guan Youbo on phlegm, Nie Huimin on the minor bupleurum decoction and combined classical formulas, and Hu Qiaowu and Li Chuanfang. Volume Four, "Inquiries in Internal Medicine and the Five Sense Organs," covers mixed cold-heat patterns, treating sweating disorders from the kidney, cough in the elderly, cirrhosis, fatty liver, prostatitis, urinary stones, and the use of rhubarb and qi-regulating methods in ophthalmology and the five sense organs. Volume Five, "Application of Ancient and Modern Formulas," records modifications of the cinnamon-twitch-peony-anemarrhena decoction, the spleen-warming decoction, the all-in-one qi decoction, and the compound powder for counterflow cold of the extremities. Volume Six, "Curious and Difficult Medical Talks and Cases," contains notes on the "blurring" drug effect, talks on mania, fourteen medical talks on difficult cases, and twenty-five case records of intractable illness. Most of the pieces were published by the authors in provincial-level or higher journals and academic conferences, with some previously unpublished new writings and clinical records.
Editor's review

Reading tips

FAQ
