Invincible Iron Man #22

This issue is part 3 of the five-issue storyline "Stark Disassembled" in Invincible Iron Man (Volume 1, issue #22 of the series launched in 2008), with the subtitle "Is It Safe?" To keep Norman Osborn from obtaining the classified information in his mind, Tony Stark had previously wiped his own brain clean and now survives only on reactor energy. In Broxton, Oklahoma, his allies carry out a "reboot" according to a plan he recorded in advance: Dr. Donald Blake (Thor) and Dr. Liss transplant the last usable reactor energy source from Pepper Potts' chest into Tony, upload his old brainwave pattern, and use Thor's lightning to wake him. Tony stirs briefly, then falls silent again—his consciousness is trapped in his own chaotic subconscious world, wearing the Iron Man chest armor that causes him pain, hiding with his deceased parents from the mechanical monsters he himself created. Thor and the two Captain Americas leave; Steve Rogers goes to fetch someone who can help; Maria Hill and the Black Widow stay to guard. Meanwhile, the Ghost, acting on the orders of Madame Masque, slips in along the telephone line and interrogates hotel owner Liz Sonastark's whereabouts, intending to "pull the plug" before Tony can be saved. Hill and Liz, with the half-conscious Pepper and Dr. Liss, hurriedly move Tony on a bedsheet and hide in the school's basement storage room. Steve Rogers finally returns with Doctor Strange, who casts a complex spell to enter Tony's mind but is caught up in Tony's dream; facing the mechanical creations that have abducted his parents, Doctor Strange extends a helping hand to Tony. This volume is issue #22 of the series, corresponding to the relevant issue collected in the Chinese edition collection "Iron Man V5."
