Summary

Hysterical Chen An finally comes to her senses. Her love and marriage are absurd through and through; apart from her husband's cold stares and indifference, she has nothing. Zhou Wei, that man, probably never loved her. Before deciding to divorce, she tells herself: I will carve out a world of my own! When in love, wholehearted and without regret; when love is gone, turn away and never look back.

Editor's review

Centered on Chen An's awakening and self-rebuilding after divorce, this book lays bare the cold stares and indifference of her marriage from the opening pages, making the attitude of "wholehearted in love, never looking back once love is gone" the driving force of the narrative. Its readability comes from the crispness of its emotional turns: from hysteria to clear-eyed resolve, then to the action line of "carving out a world of my own," the pacing wastes no time, making it a fitting read for those who want to draw the courage to start over from fiction. The work leans toward emotional resolve and personal growth, and handles the complex causes of a troubled marriage rather directly; readers expecting a layered dissection of the texture of real marriages may find it sharp but lacking in depth. Overall, it works well as an uplifting urban romance for women readers, offering strong emotional resonance whether read during a commute or in a concentrated weekend sitting.

Who it's for

A good fit for

  • Women readers who have been through an emotional low and want to draw the courage to start over from reading
  • Urban romance readers who enjoy stories of awakening after divorce and self-growth
  • Readers who prefer decisive choices and brisk, emotionally driven narratives
  • Those who want to finish a novel with an emotional outlet in one weekend sitting

Not a good fit for

  • Readers expecting an in-depth analysis of the complex causes of marriage and social structures
  • Readers who prefer restrained, subtle, slow-paced emotional writing
  • Readers who find it hard to empathize with a hysterical emotional opening

Reading tips

  1. Read the first few chapters to feel the intensity of Chen An's emotions before deciding whether to continue.
  2. Treat the "divorce decision" as a watershed and pay attention to how the characters' logic of action changes before and after.
  3. Best read in a concentrated weekend sitting, so the emotional turns build into a coherent, resonant experience.
  4. After reading, jot down a few items on your own "turning-away list" to turn the reading experience into real action.

FAQ

Is this book mainly about divorce or about starting over?
Both, but the emphasis leans toward Chen An's self-rebuilding after her awakening. The opening presents the cold stares and indifference of her marriage, then shifts to her decision to divorce and her action line of "carving out a world of my own"; watch for this turning point as you read.
Is the emotional tone of the story very oppressive?
The opening has strong emotional conflict, but the overall direction is resolve and rebuilding, emphasizing "wholehearted and without regret when in love, turning away and never looking back when love is gone." If you prefer light, sweet romance, you may find the emotional intensity on the high side.
Is it suitable for male readers?
It can be read, but the book unfolds marital awakening and self-growth from a female perspective, with a fairly distinct emotional stance. Male readers interested in urban romance and personal rebuilding can also gain a different perspective from the reading experience.
