Ultimatum Vol. 3

Ultimatum is a major crossover event launched by Marvel in 2009, set in the Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610). Written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by David Finch, its core is a five-issue miniseries of the same name, accompanied by numerous tie-in chapters in Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Fantastic Four and other titles. The story follows directly from Ultimate Comics: Ultimates Vol. 3: Scarlet Witch is murdered in the mansion, Quicksilver soon dies, and Magneto, having lost both his children, declares war on all humanity. He uses his magnetic powers to disrupt Earth's magnetic field and ocean currents, triggering tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and extreme weather; several cities are swallowed, and the Ultimate Universe's superheroes and ordinary citizens alike are caught in the catastrophe. The X-Men, the Ultimates, the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man are forced to respond separately to this global disaster. As the third volume of the overall event, this book continues the disaster setup and faction assembly of the first two volumes, advancing the Ultimate Universe toward the pivotal turn from the end of the old order to the birth of a new one, and collects the tie-in content corresponding to the third Chinese volume of the series. The Ultimate Universe is a parallel world Marvel created to free itself from the burden of sixty years of mainline continuity, with bolder characterizations and more tangible deaths; Ultimatum is a key node in that world line's convergence.
