Summary

This is a novel of officialdom, but it also involves struggles in the business world and the world of love, so it is also a three-domain novel. The three protagonists, Ha Xiaoquan, Huang Yin, and Ma Yonggang, are all people of officialdom. They are sharply opposed rivals in official competition and mutual deceivers in romantic affairs. Although they use one another, each person's career path is different. Ha Xiaoquan rises all the way; Ma Yonggang schemes painstakingly but is deceived by his female colleague and lover, and sinks for a time; Huang Yin, the bureau chief's assistant, tires of officialdom and chooses business. In short, officialdom, business, and love compete with and use one another. This book tells of people's states of existence and psychological changes among these three realms.

Editor's review

A realistic novel set against urban life, focusing on contemporary young people's struggles and choices between ideals and reality. Through finely drawn psychology and lifelike plotting, it presents the various wrong paths individuals face in modern society: confusion in career development, complexity in personal relationships, and perplexity at the level of values. The author combines inner conflict with the pressure of external circumstances, making the story both readable and deeply relevant to real life. Readers generally find the emotional writing and social observation substantial, and the book prompts reflection on one's own condition. Its literary value lies in being not merely a story but a mirror in which readers see their own shadows and consider how to find their own path in a complicated world.

About the author

九河一生 Author

Jiuhé Yīshēng is an author about whom limited public information is available. What can be confirmed is that the author has three works listed, commonly classified as social fiction. Representative titles include Mistaken Path (Qítú) and The Strange Gate of Repentance (Qíyì Huǐguò Mén); Mistaken Path appears twice in the database, possibly as different editions or volumes. Judging from the subject matter, Jiuhé Yīshēng tends toward social fiction, focusing on the fate and choices of characters in realistic circumstances. The titles Mistaken Path and Repentance both suggest an interest in moral dilemmas, life's crossroads, and themes of redemption. Since the author's real name, nationality, dates of birth and death, education, and writing career are not clearly recorded, the style and influence can only be inferred from limited work information: the language is likely accessible narrative prose, with plots built around social reality and carrying a certain cautionary and reflective tone. Overall, Jiuhé Yīshēng is a sparsely documented author known for social themes, with a small body of work that awaits further public information and reader feedback.
