Summary

This volume is the Yang Jialin fascicle of China's Eleventh Five-Year Plan national key publication, the One Hundred Distinguished Contemporary Chinese TCM Clinicians Series. Yang Jialin (b. 1937) is a chief physician, professor, and doctoral supervisor at the Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine; a national mentor for the inheritance of the academic experience of senior TCM experts; one of Sichuan Province's first batch of famous TCM physicians; and a recipient of the State Council special government allowance. After graduating in 1962 from the Department of Medicine at Chengdu College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, she stayed on to engage in clinical practice, teaching, and research in TCM gynecology, having studied under such renowned TCM gynecologists as Wang Weichuan, Zhuo Yunong, and Tang Boyuan. The main text is divided into five parts. The brief biography recounts her student years, her tortuous path to university admission, her broad accumulation of theory, and her deepening innovation in clinical practice. The section on diagnosis and treatment of specific diseases covers menstrual disorders (early periods with heavy flow, late periods with scanty flow, irregular cycle, prolonged menstruation), metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, premenstrual and postmenstrual syndromes, perimenopausal syndromes, leukorrhea, pregnancy disorders (hyperemesis gravidarum, threatened miscarriage), uterine fibroids, infertility, vulvar dystrophy, pelvic inflammatory disease, and postmenopausal osteoporosis, organizing disease under theory, theory under case, and case under commentary to present her approach to pattern differentiation and prescribing. Miscellaneous clinical notes collects topical discussions on the diagnostic and therapeutic characteristics of TCM gynecology, the kidney-Tiangui-Chong and Ren-uterine axis theory, therapeutic approaches to the Chong and Ren vessels, the use of Shoutai Wan, the causal transformation in the course of metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, dampness and gynecological disease, postpartum regulation, the difficulties and countermeasures in treating uterine fibroids, and treating chloasma by tonifying deficiency and transforming stasis. Selected commonly used clinical formulas organizes her original and modified formulas into ten categories: regulating menstruation, stopping bleeding, relieving pain, stopping leukorrhea, hyperemesis gravidarum, preventing miscarriage, infertility, vulvar dystrophy and vulvar itching, uterine fibroids, and postmenopausal osteoporosis. A chronological biography concludes the book. The work runs to approximately 221,000 characters over 311 pages and offers TCM gynecology clinicians a fairly systematic reader of a renowned expert's experience.

Editor's review

Reading tips

FAQ
