Sif

Sif is a 2010 Marvel one-shot of the same name, written by Kieron Gillen and drawn by Ryan Stegman, a side story in the Thor line. The story picks up directly from the Thor main series arc in which Loki seizes Sif's body: the proud Asgardian warrior is for a time used as a puppet, left scarred in body and mind, and for a long while no longer herself. After Asgard relocates to the small town of Broxton, Oklahoma, Sif takes a room in a local hotel, drinks alone day after day, and wraps herself in coldness and suspicion. Then her old comrade-in-arms Beta Ray Bill, once a close friend of Thor as well, arrives with his partner Ti Asha Ra: Bill's ship Skuttlebutt has been taken over by a band of infected space pirates, and the ship, protecting its owner, has sealed its hatches and shut out the Korbonites—only an Asgardian warrior might force a way in. Thor is tied up with other urgent business, so Sif volunteers for the fight. She slips aboard with Bill and faces the virus-ravaged enemy, and is herself infected; when the fear of "her body no longer being her own" rises again, she unleashes all the anger she has held in. This volume is a single-issue, self-contained story. It is short, yet it concentrates Sif's pride as a warrior, her trauma, and her rebuilding of herself, and it fills in an easily overlooked side thread of the Thor main series.
