Naja Volume 3

Naja is an action-crime graphic novel series by French screenwriter Jean-David Morvan and artist Bengal, published in French by Dargaud, with five volumes in total. The story centers on a female assassin code-named "Naja": she lost the ability to feel pain in childhood for reasons unknown, her body does not cry out in pain, and her heart is almost unmoved by anyone, making her one of the most reliable enforcers under "Zero," the head of a criminal organization, where she ranks third. She is calm, precise, asks few questions, treats killing as routine business, and treats her own life as something she can discard at any time. Conflict begins within the organization. The "Number One" assassin, responsible for the highest-level missions, moves against Naja, and the Number Two assassin is also acting in secret; the formerly one-way chain of execution becomes mutual hunting. Naja must leave Zero's protection and surveillance, moving through multiple cities while fleeing and investigating who gave the order and why it was her. Along the way she briefly encounters a mysterious "him," who seems to know her entire past; she also meets old acquaintances and is forced to face emotions and origins she had long sealed away. This volume is the third in the series, continuing the pursuit and origin clues of the first two volumes, pushing the conflict further toward a direct confrontation within the organization, and planting key seeds for the finale in the last two volumes. The series is known for its sharp European linework, rich color, and cinematic paneling; extensive wordless action sequences and first-person-like narration together create a cold, oppressive, and highly dynamic noir atmosphere.
