Daredevil Vol. 5 No. 17

This volume is issue 17 of Daredevil volume 5, written by Charles Soule and drawn by Ron Garney, published in February 2017, and it is the opening of the Purple story arc. The story begins with Matt Murdock confessing to Father Jordan in Manhattan, recalling how he resumed fighting crime in Hell’s Kitchen under a secret identity. Matt’s identity had previously been known to the whole world, making both court and street difficult for him: cases involving Daredevil could not be tried fairly, and those close to him were dragged in. The confession interweaves his reunion with his ex-girlfriend Kirsten McDuffie, and together they encounter two children with purple skin—descendants of the Purple Man, Zebediah Killgrave—who claim their other siblings have been taken by their father and used as an energy source for some kind of enhancement device. The shadow of an old enemy thus resurfaces, and Matt begins to ask what price he paid to make the world forget that Matt is Daredevil, and who was left behind. This is the seventeenth issue of the series and the first part of the Purple arc; many key answers only arrive in issues 18 to 20.
