Summary

Yu Minhong's major new book for 2026: a personal account of setting out in business once more. Life's setbacks may be the best opportunity heaven gives you. Yu Minhong's reflections on life help you find your inner direction in an uncertain world.

When suddenly hit by the enormous challenges brought by the "double reduction" policy, Yu Minhong nonetheless kept a calm and composed mindset and led New Oriental to open up a new prospect with light at the end of the tunnel. The reasons behind this are worth exploring. Through 17 speeches Yu Minhong gave between 2021 and 2024, this book presents in the first person his inner journey out of adversity, while delving into his business philosophy and the sources of his strength. Facing enormous crises and an unending stream of problems, Yu Minhong has always been able to actively look for hope and persist in doing the right thing, and this stems from his lifelong continuous learning. From the words and example of his parents and teachers, to actively absorbing the life experience of others, to persistent reading and writing, these factors together shaped Yu Minhong's powerful inner world. This book can help readers determine their own direction in an uncertain era, see hope amid adversity, and live a wonderful life within the ordinary.

Editor's review

Told in the first person, this book collects seventeen speeches Yu Minhong gave between 2021 and 2024, presenting his inner journey of leading New Oriental to find a way forward after the shock of the "double reduction" policy. Its readability lies in not avoiding the concreteness of adversity: how the crisis occurred, how he steadied his mindset, and how direction was reclaimed bit by bit. The source of strength the book repeatedly emphasizes is not talent or luck but continuous learning, the words and example of mentors and friends, and the habits of reading and writing—all of which offer transferable reference value for ordinary readers. It suits those at a career turning point, those whose ventures have suffered setbacks, or those who feel uncertain about the road ahead, and also managers seeking to learn how to maintain team steadiness amid turbulence. Note that this is a collection of personal speeches, inspirational and autobiographical in style, and does not offer specific industry operating plans; readers should take its mindset and methods rather than expect a set of business strategies to copy directly.
